WOW619Â Panther – Neil Armstrong
The Grumman F9F-2 Panther was the primary US Navy and USMC jet fighter and ground-attack aircraft in the Korean War. The Panther was the most widely used U.S. Navy jet fighter of the Korean War, flying 78,000 sorties and scoring the first air-to-air kill by the U.S. Navy in the war, a North Korean Yakovlev Yak-9 fighter.
Navy F9F-2 Panther jet S-116 was flown by Navy Ensign Neil Armstrong.
Assigned to Fighter Squadron 51, the squadron was assigned to Carrier Air Group 5 aboard the USS Essex for a deployment to Korea from June 26, 1951, to March 25, 1952. Armstrong flew many sorties over Korea in the early 1950s, even ejecting from one of the aircraft when it was brought down by a wire strung across a valley in 1951.
This 1/30 scale hand carved Mahogany jet is limited to 1 in number worldwide. Priced at $799 plus postage.
The TGÂ accessories and K&C figures are shown for scale comparison purposes only and are not included.
